Onboarding — The Meridian

The Meridian is a shared map for Mapmakers: a knowledge garden at the edge of a knowledge forest. It lives at mapmakers-tech-guild.github.io/The-Meridian — a full Quartz site with search, backlinks, and the edges-only vault map on the intro.

If you’re new, start small. A good first contribution is a single note with clean links.

  • Intro animation — the animated edges map shows how the seven areas connect. Click through or wait.
  • Left sidebar — search, dark mode toggle, and the full explorer tree.
  • Right sidebar — the local graph (notes around the current page) and backlinks.
  • NAV0 - Housekeeping/NAV.md is the canonical table of contents.

How the tree is organized

The repo is split into seven numbered areas:

#AreaWhat goes here
0HousekeepingNAV, templates, guides, Egregore
1PeopleOne file per member
2ProjectsProject blurbs and links
3KnowledgePatterns, findings, Zettelkasten notes
4GuildGuild structure, agent packs
5OperationsRunbooks and SOPs
6ArchiveCold or superseded material

Pick the area that fits and go from there.

How to contribute

  1. Fork or branch, then open a PR.
  2. Keep changes small and scoped — one note, one guide, one pattern per PR.
  3. Prefer links over tag piles. Link up to sources and sideways to related ideas.
  4. Use a template if it fits:

See CONTRIBUTING.md for the full contributor guide.

Membranes — what belongs here

This repo is public. Don’t push anything you’d regret being mirrored.

When in doubt, default to less. You can always publish more later; you can’t unpublish a leaked secret.

This repo uses the ARX Foundation Public Pact (AFPP).

What we’re looking for

  • Notes that are kind to a future reader
  • Patterns that make the guild more capable
  • Maps that make the forest less lonely
